Welcome & Project Files
Welcome to Maya Rigging Basics Volume One! We are excited to have you here. If you have any questions along the way, please don't hesitate to email us at [email protected].
Foundational Logic
We look past the interface to understand Maya's core architecture. In this module, you will master production-standard naming conventions, the logic of hierarchy, and clearly understand the concepts behind Transformations and Gimbal Lock.
Constraints
We go deep into Parent, Point, Orient, Scale, and Aim constraints, looking under the hood at how they actually drive transforms. You will learn to manipulate weights, understand rotation interpolation types, and apply vector math logic to build complex mechanisms like a Stewart Platform.
Attributes
We start with the core mechanics of Custom Attributes—learning how to properly create, edit, and connect them to drive your rig. We then expand into driving systems like Set Driven Keys and Expressions, understanding the distinct role each method plays in a production pipeline.
Utility Nodes
We dive deep into the Node Editor to build sophisticated logic networks using Maya's native architecture. You will learn to use essential math and logic nodes—including multiplyDivide, condition, and remapValue—to drive complex mechanical behaviors efficiently.
Control
A professional controller is more than just a curve shape; it acts as the bridge between the rig and the animator. This section establishes the standard workflow for control creation, focusing on the correct hierarchy structure needed to ensure the rig is clean, organized, and easy to reset.
Capstone Project: Production-Ready Car Rig
Apply everything you have learned to build a complete, production-ready asset. We guide you through the entire rigging pipeline: from initial model inspection and hierarchy setup to complex mechanics like wheel steering angles, steering ratios, automatic wheel rotation, and a detailed suspension system. Finally, we cover rig cleanup and detailed shot setup workflows to automate animation in production.
