Welcome & Setup
The aim of this course is to give you the confidence to get started with Houdini. It builds on what you already know as a 3D artist and gives you the basics needed to start doing things in Houdini. In this short module we go over what the course covers, how Houdini is used in production, and how to set it up so you can follow along. The lessons were recorded live and then edited to focus on the important parts. You can watch them in order or jump to specific topics when you need a quick reminder of what to do and why. The goal is not to cover every tool in depth, but to help you understand how Houdini thinks and feel comfortable continuing on your own.
Houdini Basics and Attributes
This module covers the core ideas you need to start working in Houdini. We focus on how geometry, attributes, and node networks work together, and how to think about data instead of steps. The goal is not to memorize tools, but to understand what is happening and feel comfortable building simple networks on your own.
Topology, UVs, and Simple Tools
This module focuses on practical modeling topics inside Houdini. We look at topology, UVs, and how these fit into a procedural workflow, without going too deep or technical. The goal is to help you understand how to approach these tasks in Houdini and feel comfortable using them in simple setups and tools.
Heightfields and Scattering
This module introduces heightfields and common environment workflows in Houdini. We focus on understanding the main ideas and how these tools are used. The goal is to feel comfortable using heightfields, scattering assets, and adding variation in a procedural way.
Simulation Basics and Rendering
This module gives a high level introduction to simulations in Houdini. We look at the main simulation types and how they work, without going deep into technical details. The goal is to understand what each system is for, how to set up something simple, and remove the fear around simulations.
